Whilst small, 'Maquette for Large Flat Bird' is full of character and an excellent example of Bernard Meadows work of the 1950's when he was experimenting with the ideas that captured post war angst mainly rendered through a series of birds and crabs. This maquette (BM 43) relates directly to 'Large Flat Bird' of the same year which stands at 111 cm tall (BM44) and is included in the Tate collection.
