Wason’s ceramic pieces are much more than functional ceramics, they are works of art with sumptuous metallic oxide finishes so that the object casts its own soft ‘glow’, and transforming the original clay body. However, about the notion of glazing clay, Wason says ‘putting a coat of glass over my clay has never really interested me. The clay itself is the skin of the object, and so I tend it and work with it until it reveals the character that I have in mind for the object in hand.’ The tactility of Wason’s objects enhance an impression of layers of history and culture.
