As a result, his imagery became less obvious and more schematic. Animals have become a lexicon of sculptural language for Buck and he finds that they can express an idea just as poignantly as a human figure - looking at animals is an effective, non-confrontational way of looking at ourselves.
Unlike most of his recent work, this curved geometric cat has no marks or motifs on it. Possessing a linear quality and simplicity of form and colour, this piece was made for Jon Buck’s latest exhibition ‘Time of Our Lives’ (May-June 2019) – aiming to remind us of the pressures we are imposing on our natural environments and the creatures that inhabit them.Provenance
