'From the Depths of Time' is a new series of work by Angela Palmer comprising salvaged teak which was onboard the cargo ship, Pegu, when it was torpedoed by a German U-Boat in 1917 off Galley Head in County Cork – very near where the RMS Lusitania had been torpedoed two years prior. Immediately drawn to the natural beauty of the underwater ‘carvings’ made by marine boring insects whilst the teak lay undisturbed on the seabed for the past century, Palmer has left these mostly untouched whilst polishing the amazingly well preserved hardwood to highlight its richly varied red hues and the intricate rings of these ancient trees.
