Jeff Lowe started by printing a ‘place’ for the image to sit. This involved printing a backdrop and series of gaps for the next shapes to relate to. The internal image became engaged with the backdrop and outer edges of the printed rectangle. The image filled much more of the paper and because of the surrounding colour the image existed in a separated space rather than on the unprinted paper.
